Wedding Stationery Timeline: What to send and when

Wedding planning’s all about timing so here’s a clear checklist of the wedding stationery you need for your wedding and when it should be sent to guests.

8-10 Months Before

1.      Wedding Save the Date Cards:

Once you’ve picked a date and location for the wedding you can send out wedding save the date cards. These can be sent as early as you like, leaving you time to organise all the wedding details before you send the wedding invitations.

The purpose of save the date cards is to give guests plenty of notice as well as sharing your happy news. Send out as early as you like, bearing in mind how much organisation your wedding will mean for them. On average, save the dates tend to be sent about 7 months before the wedding. For destination or multi-day weddings it’s about 10 months.

2.      Will You Be My Bridesmaid Cards

You may be under serious pressure to name them from early on but it’s best to wait until around 8 months before just in case relationship dynamics change before you really need to name names. This way you’ll have plenty of time to think carefully about who you choose and how you can assign other roles to those not chosen.

3- 4 Months Before

3. Wedding Invitations

By now all your wedding details will be in place so you can send out the formal wedding invitations 3-4 months before your wedding day. See wedding invitations

2 Months Before

4. On the Day Wedding Stationery

Now’s  the time to order all your wedding stationery and wedding favours (unless edible), there’s a lot so starting about 2 months in advance will give you plenty of time.

Here’s a list of what you need:

Order of Service so guests can participate in the wedding ceremony.

Table Names and Table Numbers so guests know where to sit and servers can work effectively.

Wedding Menus so guests know what is being served.

Place Name Cards so guests know where to sit.

Optional: Wedding guest book if you want to collect messages from guests to mark the occasion
